Glenn Beck Kills Three Police Officers in Pittsburgh

For years the mantra has been that guns don't kill people, people kill people. Whenever some nut goes out and kills a bunch of people with a gun, we find some other reason to blame, other than the fact that the lunatic had a gun in the first place.

In 1999, when Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold shot 36 people and then themselves at Columbine High School, it wasn't the fact that two obviously disturbed boys managed to get their hands on a small arsenal. It was that they were listening to dangerous music, like the Insane Clown Posse and Marylin Manson. The theory went that the music, filled with violent imagery, led the boys to commit murder. Seems reasonable to us. At least it wasn't the guns.

When Michael Moore interviewed the former president of the National Rifle Association, Charlton Heston in Bowling for Columbine, the subject of gun violence arose. When Heston was asked what the reason for the high incidence of gun violence in this country was, compared to another country with just as many guns per capita like Canada, Heston, thought for a demented moment, and blamed the colored folk. At least he didn't blame the easy access to guns.

And this past week, when an immigrant, upset over losing his job to outsourcing--please insert irony here--walked into an immigration support agency--insert sad irony here--and opened fire and killed 13 people before pulling the gun on himself, the blogosphere was quick to point out that Jiverly Voong was a Vietnamese immigrant. The story suddenly went from massacre in New York State, to immigrant kills people. Sounds better than blaming the right to have guns, lots and lots of guns. My bottom hurts just thinking about it.

Not being one to blame the innocent guns, I believe that we must continue this proud tradition of placing blame anywhere but with the guns, those sweet, innocent guns. This past week, when an unstable man, who feared that Barack Obama was going to take away his guns, opened fire on police in a quiet street in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, it wasn't his adorable little guns who killed three police officers. It was those messages, which told him that President Obama was going to take away his guns.

Since these messages had to originate somewhere, and since the célèbre du jour is that rising star over at Fox News and Howard Beale impressionist, Glenn Beck, it seems appropriate to hang the blame on him.

So my next question is, when will the Pennsylvania State Police issue an arrest warrent for Glenn Beck? And if they aren't going to arrest the man, will there be a civil suit, where the widows of the slain police officers get to sue his and Rupert Murdoch's asses off? And even if there is no suit, will he be so destroyed by the event, that his show eventually gets ripped off the air like Jenny Jones?

It seems appropriate, and makes about as much sense as blaming some cross dresser or rap singers who like to wear clown makeup for Columbine, black people for gun violence, or immigration for a massacre.

Because if we start examining who can purchase a gun in this country, where will that lead? Pretty soon some nuts out there in the blogosphere will actually question things like if immigrants and green card holders can get guns. And that would be just sad.

Banning firearms will not lower murder rates. This has been done in England which saw murder rates rise and then, in response to that, pointy knives were banned.

In states like Texas and Florida, which expanded the right for law abiding citizens to legally carry concealed weapons, murder rates decreased. Before these actions, gun control organizations screamed in protests. Crime went down.

Banning legally owned firearms will not reduce murder rates. There was an attempted shooting at the Appalachian School of Law in 2002 and he was stopped because students ran to their cars to grab their personal firearms to take down the killer.

There have been the same type of shootings in several European countries that have very strict gun laws so obviously it doesn't make a difference.

Americans have the right to defend themselves, their lives, and their property from those who would do them harm. Reducing violence is a noble goal but you cannot render innocent people defenseless by taking away their legally owned guns for criminals will always find a way to arm themselves.

I didn't say anything about banning guns. All I said is that Glenn Beck should be arrested and put on trial for murder.

Not in so many words but how would you interpret this:

For years the mantra has been that guns don't kill people, people kill people. Whenever some nut goes out and kills a bunch of people with a gun, we find some other reason to blame, other than the fact that the lunatic had a gun in the first place.

Would you address the idea of arresting Glenn Beck, please? No one is saying anything about taking away guns. All I am advocating is making certain people responsible for these heinous acts.

Where in your post did you quote anything Glenn Beck said?

The reason is the rising lack of personal responsibility we see in today's world.

You go Blanca! Arrest Glenn Beck! And maybe that Harrison guy too, I'm sure he encouraged someone to buy a gun and shoot dark people who don't agree with him.

Yep...Harrison needs to be arrested too..lol.

Listen...the point..at least for me, is that perhaps there should be a few hoops one must jump before they can own gun(s).

Why are americans so afraid of registering their firearms? Blanca...Canada has MORE guns per capita than the US. Yes Harrison..we like our guns too. We do have to register them though. Nobody bothers us....we dont get inspectors coming to check to make sure we havent bought more...lol..we cant without a permit.

The point I am trying to make is that there has only been the very rare occassion when a nutjob has gone out blasting himself and everyone in his path away. We have far less deaths by gunshot in this country....and the knives? Please...give it a rest. Americans dont get killed by knives either?

All most normal people want...is a little balance. Lets make sure people buying guns are equipped in the head to own one. Will it stop all the criminals?? No..I am not that naive...but it sure as hell helps.

You can always count on Liberals to be the most tolerant. Thank you for proving this once again!

lol..sorry..one more point. The hate speech coming out of folks like Beck...Hannity ...rush..etc. is stirring the crazies. It truly is, and Harrison if you cant see that...wow.

You better be careful anonymous, Harrison might have you locked up for providing first hand accounts of what really goes on in the Great White North. Next you'll blow a hole in that whole notion that Canadians hate their national health care and secretly long for the most screwed up health care system in the world: ours.

lol...@friendly anon 2:04 thanks for the heads up.

Yep..Canadians really hate their health care. I mean my god...why on earth would I like a system, whereby...while on vacation several provinces away...hubby had an accident. After said accident, he had to be taken to hospital. He was asked if he had is provinical health card. He explained that no..he did not in fact have it with him...and the response was to fix him up..with a smile I might add. They just asked him to send them a copy of his card when he returned home ...if he remembered.

Now I ask you...isnt that terrible??? I mean..the nerve. To help him? When he could not show proof of insurance?

By the way...the province we were visiting is only a 1 hour ferry ride accross from Maine. He could have even been a US citizen. Naughty naughty ...bad bad...Canadian health care system.

omg...Harrison, I just reread your original post. It would be funny if I wasnt so horrified.

So a would be shooter was foiled because a bunch of kids ran to their cars and got their OWN guns??

Wow...yes, that makes me feel soooo much better.

Harrison said...

You should feel better... their brave actions saved many lives.

Crazy idea...how about instead of blaming the weapons murderers use, or the "messages" sent by talk show host, music etc...How about we lay blame on the people that actually did the killing?

Blanca DeBree said...

But we Republicans never take blame for anything we do. It's just our nature. Go ahead, ask W.

Wow and here I thought Blanca was a Democrat all this time.
